ΔΕΣΠΟΙΝΑ ΚΑΡΒΕΛΑ σκηνοθέτης
Γεννήθηκε και ζει στην Αθήνα. Απόφοιτη Aγγλικής Φιλολογίας του Deree Αγίας Παρασκευής (Β.Α.), απόφοιτη Film Arts του California College of Arts, Berkeley, USA (B.F.A., με διάκριση), φοιτά στο Ελληνικό Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο, στο τμήμα «Ελληνικός Πολιτισμός».
Εργάζεται σαν σκηνοθέτης κινηματογράφου και τηλεόρασης, σκηνοθετεί ταινίες μυθοπλασίας και ταινίες ντοκυμαντέρ.
Γράφει σενάρια για κινηματογραφικές και τηλεοπτικές ταινίες μυθοπλασίας.
Έχει κάνει μεταγλωττίσεις (dubbing) σε κινηματογραφικές και τηλεοπτικές ταινίες, λογοτεχνικές επιμέλειες βιβλίων, έχει διδάξει σε σχολικούς θεατρικούς ομίλους.
Έχει δυο γιους, τον Γιώργο και τον Μάριο, με τον σκηνοθέτη Αλέξανδρο Παπαηλιού.

Από τις ταινίες μυθοπλασίας σε σενάριο δικό της, «Το Διήμερο»(Γιώτα Φέστα, Αλκής Παναγιωτίδης) βραβεύθηκε στο Φεστιβάλ Θεσσαλονίκης, στο Φεστιβάλ Δράμας, και συμμετείχε στο Festival de Lille, Γαλλία, με διάκριση.
Η ταινία της ντοκυμαντέρ «Berkeley afternoon» (California, USA) διακρίθηκε στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Θεσσαλονίκης.
Στην ελληνική τηλεόραση, ξεχώρισαν οι τηλεταινίες της μυθοπλασίας σε σενάρια δικά της, «Οδός Πανεπιστημίου δεν υπάρχει»(Αντιγόνη Βαλάκου, Γιώτα Φέστα, Βαγγέλης Γερμάνος) (συμμετοχή στο Φεστιβάλ Locarno) και «Δεσποινίς Καραβά» (Michelle Valley, Γιαννης Καραμπίνης, Γιώτα Φέστα, Μαρίνα Καλογήρου)(MEDIA II – ΕΡΤ).
Η ταινία της ντοκυμαντέρ «Είν’ ωραία» βραβεύθηκε στο Φεστιβάλ Καλαμάτας και συμμετείχε στο Μεσογειακό Φεστιβάλ Ντοκυμαντέρ Σάμου, όπως επίσης στο Φεστιβάλ Bordeaux, Γαλλία.
Η σπονδυλωτή ταινία “Athens Blogs” (συμμετοχή- σε σενάριο δικό της-Γιώτα Φέστα, Βαγγέλης Γερμανός, Στέργιος Νένες) βραβεύθηκε στο Φεστιβάλ Θεσσαλονίκης (Βραβείο Διαφημιστών) και στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Πάτρας (βραβείο καλύτερης ταινίας με υπόθεση).
Ταινίες της έχουν αγορασθεί από τηλεοπτικά κανάλια στην Αμερική, Αυστραλία, Σουηδία, και Γαλλία.

Για την τηλεόραση έχει σκηνοθετήσει και πολλές ταινίες ντοκυμαντέρ.
Στην εκπομπή Παρασκήνιο, ενδεικτικά, «Οι γυναίκες σκηνοθέτες», «Τα παιδιά θαύματα του ελληνικού κινηματογράφου», «Η αφή της φλόγας και η Μαρία Χορς», «Το Ελληνικό Τραγούδι», «Φρίντα Λιάππα» (σκηνοθέτης), «Νίκος Καρούζος» (ποιητής), «Κατερίνα Αγγελάκη-Ρουκ» (ποιήτρια) κ.α.
Στην εκπομπή Η ΕΡΤ στη Βόρειο Ελλάδα, ενδεικτικά, «Αλίκη Τέλλογλου» (Θεσσαλονίκη), «Κυρ-Μήτσος και ΕΡΤ» (Όλυμπος), «Νεκρομαντείο» (Ήπειρος) κ.α.
Στην εκπομπή Μονόγραμμα: «Μαρία Χορς» (χορογράφος).
Στην εκπομπή Γυναικεία Πορτραίτα: «Λαμπρινή», «Λίτσα», «Σταυρούλα», η τελευταία συμμετείχε σε γυναικείο φεστιβάλ στη Φλωρεντία.
Στην εκπομπή Περισκόπιο: «Αλέξανδρος Κοτζιάς», «Μάριος Χάκκας», «Ανδρέας Φραγκιάς» (πεζογράφοι).
Στην εκπομπή Έρευνα: «Ανύπαντρες μητέρες».
Στην εκπομπή Ψηφιδωτό, ενδεικτικά: «Η σχολή μπαλέτου της Όπερας του Παρισιού» κ.α.
Σε οικολογική εκπομπή της ΕΡΤ σκηνοθέτησε ταινία για την ανακύκλωση: «Είναι τα σκουπίδια για πέταμα;;»

Συνεργάσθηκε με το Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών, σκηνοθετώντας τα making of των θεατρικών παραστάσεων «Ιππείς» και «Αντιγόνη» στην ταινία ντοκυμαντέρ «Ο δρόμος για την Επίδαυρο», και των παραστάσεων «Υψιπύλη» και «Όρνιθες» στην ταινία ντοκυμαντέρ «Στην Επίδαυρο».
Σκηνοθέτησε έξι δεκάλεπτες ταινίες ντοκυμαντέρ, πορτραίτα ξεχωριστών νέων, για τη Γενική Γραμματεία Νέας Γενιάς.
Σκηνοθέτησε ανεξάρτητες ταινίες ντοκυμαντέρ για την ΕΡΤ, ενδεικτικά: «Εφάνη η αρμάδα του Βενετσάνου ημέρα Σάββατο» (η καταστροφή του Παρθενώνα από τον Μοροζίνη), «Τα προικοσύμφωνα και η μοιχεία στην Τουρκοκρατία». Το «Ταξίδι στη Μάλτα» είναι μια άλλη ανεξάρτητη ταινία ντοκυμαντέρ, όπως επίσης, σε συσκηνοθεσία με τον Σούλη Παπανικολάου, το «Θόδωρος Αδαμόπουλος, ο θεματοφύλακας της κινηματογραφικής μνήμης» (διευθυντής της Ταινιοθήκης της Ελλάδος).
Έχει σκηνοθετήσει video clip για μουσικά συγκροτήματα.
Η τρέχουσα εργασία της βρίσκεται στις διαδικασίες για τη χρηματοδότησή της. Πρόκειται για τη μεγάλου μήκους μυθοπλασίας ταινία της «Ευκάλυπτος», σε σενάριο δικό της.

Born and lives in Athens , Greece Deree College , A. Paraskevi, Greece , also graduate of Film and TV Arts (B.F.A.- with distinction) from California College of Arts, Berkeley , USA
She works as film director for cinema and TV, making fiction and documentary films.
She writes scripts for cinema and for TV fiction films.
She has worked in Dubbing for movies and TV fiction films, she has taught in school theater clubs, she has done proof – reading (editing) of literature books.
She has two sons, Yorgos and Marios, with the film director Alexandros Papailiou.

Among her fiction films on her own script, “Diimeron”(Yota Festa, Alkis Panagiotidis), awarded prizes both at the Thessaloniki Film Festival and at the Drama Film Festival. It also competed at the Festival de Lille, France, with distinction.
Her documentary film «Berkeley afternoon» (California , USA ) was distinguished at the International Film Festival of Thessaloniki.
Of particular interest on Greek TV have been her two TV fiction films, on her own scripts, “Panepistimiou street doesn’t exist”(Antigone Valakou, Yota Festa, Vaggelis Germanos) (pariticipation at the Locarno Festival) and “Miss Karava”(Michelle Valley, Yiannis Karabinis, Yota Festa, Marina Kalogirou) (MEDIA II – Greek TV).
Her documentary film “It’ s Lovely” awarded a prize at the Internatiomal Documentary Festival of Kalamata, Pelponnese, competed at the Mediterranean Documentary Festival of Samos and also competed at the Festival de Bordeaux, France.
The segmented film “Athens Blogs”(Yota Festa, Vaggelis Germanos, Thanos Kotsopoulos, Stergios Nenes) (-participation- on her own script) awarded the Prize of Advertisers at the Thessaloniki Film Festival and awarded also the prize for the better fiction film at the International Film Festival of Patras, Greece.
Films of hers have been bought by TV channels in America , Australia , Sweden and France

She directed also for the Greek TV several documentary films.

On the broadcast program “The Greek TV in Northern Greece”: “Aliki Telloglou” (Thessaloniki), “Uncle Mitsos and the TV” (Olympus), “Oracle of the Dead” (Epirus) and others.
On the broadcast program Monogramma “Maria Hors” (choreographer).
On the broadcast program Women’s portraits: «Lambrini», «Litsa», «Stavroula», the last participated in a women’s festival in Florence
On the broadcast program Periscope: “Alexandros Kotzias”, “Marios Hakkas” “Andreas Frangias” (prose writers).

On the broadcast program “Mosaic”: ”The ballet school of the Opera de Paris” and others.
On an ecological broadcast program of the Greek TV she directed a documentary film about recycling: “Is rubbish to be thrown away?”.

She collaborated with Athens Festival, directing the “making of” of the performances in the ancient theater of Epidaurus: “Horses” (Aristophanes) and “Antigone” (Sophocles) in the documentary film “The Road to Epidaurus ” and of the performances “Ypsipili” (Euripides) and “Birds” (Aristophanes) in the documentary film “In Epidaurus”.
She directed six documentary films of ten minutes each, portraits of promising youths, for the Greek General Secretariat of New Generation.
She directed independent documentary films for the Greek TV: “Parthenon’s destruction by Morozini”, “The trousseau contracts and adultery during the Turkish Occupation” and others.
An independent documentary film is the “Trip to Malta”.
“Thodoros Adamopoulos, the guardian of the cinematographic memory” (director of the Greek Film Archive), codirected with Soulis Papanicolaou, is another independent documentary film.
She also directed video clips for musical groups.
Her current work is under the procedure of collecting funds for it. It concerns her fiction feature film “Eucalyptus”, on her own script.
